How we price it
The exact price depends on your specific model, since two items that look similar can be very different to build. The most accurate way is to send a photo of the finished item from the store website, or its model reference, when you request your quote. A $120 minimum applies per visit, so several items together in one visit is usually the best value.

Adjustable benches have a backrest that tilts between flat and upright positions and a seat pad that may also tilt. The hinge and locking mechanism for the backrest is the most important part of the build. The main frame goes together first: two end legs connected by a main beam. The legs need to be confirmed flat on the floor before the beam is tightened, because the beam torque pulls them slightly as it is driven. A leg cocked at an angle when the beam is tightened will not sit flat and the bench will rock under load. The seat pad and backrest pad attach to the frame after the main beam is in. The seat pad bolts to the front section of the frame. The backrest pad attaches to a hinge bracket at the rear of the seat pad. The hinge bracket needs to be confirmed tight before the backrest is loaded, because it carries the full load of the user's back when inclined. The angle locking mechanism on most adjustable benches is a ladder bracket: a toothed bar on the back of the backrest that hooks over a fixed pin on the frame at each angle position. The ladder bracket needs to be confirmed engaging the pin at every angle position before the bench is used. A bracket that skips a position can drop the backrest unexpectedly. Some adjustable benches have a decline position that uses a separate foot pad. The foot pad attaches to the front legs and the bolt needs to be confirmed before the decline position is used. Work comes from apartments in the inner city, terrace houses in the Inner West and houses across the Eastern Suburbs. Photos of the finished piece are part of every job.
