How we price it
The exact price depends on your specific model, since two items that look similar can be very different to build. The most accurate way is to send a photo of the finished item from the store website, or its model reference, when you request your quote. A $120 minimum applies per visit, so several items together in one visit is usually the best value.

Flat benches are straightforward to assemble but the leg bolt torque is often under-estimated on first build. A bench that is used under a heavy barbell needs all frame bolts at the torque specified in the instructions, not just snug. The frame goes up first. Two end leg assemblies connect to a main beam. The end leg assemblies are usually a pair of legs welded or bolted to a crossbar. The crossbar needs to be confirmed flat on the floor before the main beam is tightened. An end assembly that is twisted slightly will cause one leg to be off the floor, and under a loaded barbell that load goes into the joint rather than through the leg to the floor. The main beam connects the two end assemblies and carries the pad. The beam bolt positions are usually pre-drilled and the bolts go in from the inside of the end assembly crossbar. On a commercial-grade flat bench, the beam may be a single piece that slides through the end assemblies rather than bolting to them. In that case, the beam lock bolt needs to be confirmed before the pad is loaded. The pad bolts to the top of the main beam via a plate on the underside of the pad frame. The plate bolt holes need to be aligned with the beam bolt holes before the bolts go in. A pad that is slightly rotated on the beam will sit crooked on the bench and will allow the pad to pivot under a one-sided load. All frame bolts are re-confirmed after the pad is on, because the act of placing the pad can shift some bolts slightly.
