How we price it
The exact price depends on your specific model, since two items that look similar can be very different to build. The most accurate way is to send a photo of the finished item from the store website, or its model reference, when you request your quote. A $120 minimum applies per visit, so several items together in one visit is usually the best value.

Blanket boxes are a short build but the lid system is where the assembly typically goes wrong. The lid on most flat-pack blanket boxes uses a continuous hinge, sometimes called a piano hinge, that runs the full width of the rear edge. The hinge needs to be aligned with the back edge of the lid before the screws go in, because a hinge that is even 1mm off the edge concentrates flex at one point instead of distributing it along the full run. Most designs include a safety stay: a short strap or chain that limits how far the lid opens. The stay prevents the lid from falling back past the tipping point and either damaging the wall behind or pulling the hinge screws out under the sudden load. The stay anchor point on the carcass side needs to be on the correct face of the side panel, and the lid anchor needs to be set so the lid holds open at roughly 90 degrees without pulling tight. Some blanket box lids also have a slow-close hinge system. These use a torsion rod inside the hinge barrel to control the closing speed. The tension on the rod is adjustable by rotating the rod in its mounts. Too little tension and the lid drops quickly; too much and the lid creeps closed over several minutes, which is also not right. Most inner-Sydney buildings mean carrying pieces up stairs at some point. That is factored in. Before leaving, the assembled piece gets photographed for the record. A photo of the box or a link to the product page is enough to quote it.
