How we price it
The exact price depends on your specific model, since two items that look similar can be very different to build. The most accurate way is to send a photo of the finished item from the store website, or its model reference, when you request your quote. A $120 minimum applies per visit, so several items together in one visit is usually the best value.

A kitchen island from a flat-pack supplier is built like a carcass cabinet, not like a piece of furniture. The base is built first and levelled on the floor before anything goes on top. Most kitchen islands have adjustable feet that set the height. Getting all four feet at the same height is the first step; the floor in an existing kitchen is rarely perfectly level, and the island needs to be level independent of the floor. The bench top, whether it is timber, stone-look laminate, or another material, attaches with clips from inside the carcass. The clips allow the top to move slightly with humidity changes, so they should be snug but not locked tight. Overtightening the clips can cause a timber or laminate top to bow upward or crack at the overhang. Stone or stone-look tops are usually heavy enough to sit without clips, but the position needs to be set before the edge profile meets the adjacent cabinetry. Drawer runners and door hinges on a kitchen island are the same as any other carcass cabinet. The runners need to be at the same height on both sides, and the doors need to be squared up before the gap between them is checked. A two-door island with doors that are each 2mm out of alignment will have a 4mm gap difference, which is visible. Flat-pack deliveries to apartments come with their own version of every problem: tight door frames, no service lift, and floors that mark easily.
