How we price it
The exact price depends on your specific model, since two items that look similar can be very different to build. The most accurate way is to send a photo of the finished item from the store website, or its model reference, when you request your quote. A $120 minimum applies per visit, so several items together in one visit is usually the best value.

Manual standing desks come in two types: hand-crank and pneumatic lift. Each has a different build sequence for the height mechanism, but both share the same requirement that the frame needs to be level before the desktop goes on. Hand-crank desks have a crank mechanism that drives a screw-lift column, usually at one end of the cross-bar. The column housing needs to be seated in its bracket before the cross-bar is tightened, because the housing carries the lateral load from the column when the desk is at height. If the housing is slightly off-centre in the bracket, the column will bind at mid-height. The crank mechanism is usually accessible from the side of the desk, so it can be tested and adjusted after the desktop is on, but the column housing position cannot be adjusted without removing the cross-bar. Pneumatic desks use a pre-charged cylinder rather than a crank. The cylinder is under pressure and needs to be fitted to the frame before the desktop is placed, because the cylinder extends when unloaded and needs to be compressed to the correct height before the frame bolts go on. Both desk types have a top that locks to the frame from underneath. The lock bolts need to be confirmed tight before the desk is tested under load, because a loose top bolt will allow the desktop to slide forward when the desk is raised. Whether it is a city apartment or a house in the Eastern Suburbs or Inner West, the access situation is part of the job. Packaging goes back in the boxes before leaving.
