Standing desk assembly has a step that most people skip: setting the column height range before the desktop is placed. The column motor drives the desk between a floor height and a ceiling height, and those limits are set by dip switches or a hex key in the column body. Once the desktop is on, access to the column settings requires removing the desktop.
Dual-leg standing desks have two columns that need to be synchronised. If one column extends faster than the other, the desktop will tilt as it rises. The synchronisation test runs the desk to its maximum height and back to its minimum height and confirms both columns reach their limits at the same time.
Preset memory buttons need to be programmed and confirmed through the full height range. A preset stored at the correct sitting height when the desk is empty may store at a different height once the desk carries equipment, because the weight changes column compression slightly.
Cable management is the last step before handover. The cable tray collects monitor and power cables along the underside of the desktop and needs to be clear of the column mechanism at all height settings.
