Office furniture assembly is time-sensitive in a way that home assembly is not. A home delivery can be rescheduled. An office fit-out has staff coming in the next morning. The build sequence needs to be planned against that deadline, not discovered on the day.
Workstation runs are built from one end outward. Each frame is levelled before the next frame is joined to it. Joining bolts lock the positions of the frames they connect, so any levelling error in an earlier frame gets locked in when the next frame is joined. Getting each frame level before joining avoids compounding small errors across a long run.
Standing desks have a motor column that needs to be confirmed working at the correct height range before the desktop is placed. The column adjustment range is set by a hex key in the column base, and the range needs to be confirmed before the desktop locks the column in.
Office chairs are the most common assembly item with a hidden torque step. The gas cylinder seats into the base star, and the mechanism plate seats onto the cylinder top. Both connections are gravity-fit, not bolted, but the weight of the chair confirming both connections is the final check before the chair is put into service.
