Shelving and storage units span a wide range of types: flat-pack bookcase shelving, cube grid systems, tall storage cabinets with doors, and heavy-duty utility shelving. All of them share the same requirement: the upright or carcass needs to be level before loading.
Bookcases with adjustable shelves have shelf pins that sit in holes in the side panels. The pins need to be at the same height on both sides before the shelf is placed. A pin that is one hole higher on one side than the other will hold a shelf that tips toward the low pin. On a bookcase with many shelves, confirming all pins before placing any shelves is faster than adjusting each shelf after the fact.
Cube grid systems including KALLAX and similar ranges are built from the outer frame inward. The outer frame is confirmed square before the dividers are inserted. The dividers are what lock the frame square. On a large grid, inserting all dividers before confirming the outer frame square will lock the out-of-square position permanently.
Tall storage cabinets and utility shelving that will carry significant weight need to be anchored to the wall. The anchor attaches to a stud. A tall cabinet anchored only to plasterboard will pull away from the wall if a lower shelf is pulled out fully. Jobs run across the inner city, City Fringe, South Sydney and the Eastern Suburbs.
