Wardrobe assembly is the flat-pack category where sequence errors are most visible after the job is done. A carcass that is not squared before the back panel is fixed will have doors that do not hang parallel. Hinges that are set before the door gap is confirmed will require adjustment after the doors are on. Shelf pins that are not at the same height on both sides will hold a shelf that tips toward the low side.
The build sequence for every wardrobe starts with the carcass: base, sides, and top. The carcass is squared and confirmed before the back panel is fixed. The back panel fixes the square. Once the back panel is in, the carcass cannot be adjusted without removing it.
Sliding door wardrobes have a track sequence: the bottom track is fixed first, then the top track is set parallel to it. The top track fixing position determines the door gap at the top. If the top track is not parallel to the bottom, the doors will not run smoothly across the full width.
Wall anchoring is the last step for all freestanding wardrobes. The anchor bracket attaches to a stud in the wall. A wardrobe anchored only to plasterboard will pull away from the wall if it is loaded and someone opens a door quickly. The anchor confirmation is part of every wardrobe handover.
