Open wardrobe systems and garment racks share the same level and anchor requirements as enclosed wardrobes. An open frame that is not level will tilt under load. An open unit that is not anchored will tip if someone pulls at the top rail.
Freestanding garment racks are the most straightforward: base first, uprights second, top rail third. The top rail needs to be at the confirmed hanging height before the rail is locked. On a double-tier rack, both rail heights are confirmed before anything is hung on either rail, because adjusting the lower rail after the upper rail is loaded requires removing the upper rail load first.
Open shelving wardrobes with side panels and a top rail are built in the same sequence as an enclosed wardrobe carcass, without the back panel. The uprights are levelled before the shelves are set. Shelf bracket positions are confirmed at the correct heights on both uprights before the shelves are placed. A bracket that is one slot higher on one upright than the other will hold a shelf that tips to the lower side.
Wall anchoring for open wardrobe systems and shelving wardrobes is confirmed before any clothing or items are placed. A tall open unit anchored only to plasterboard will flex when loaded.
