Kids and nursery furniture has safety requirements beyond general assembly quality. A cot needs to be level before the mattress base height is set, so the base is horizontal to support the mattress evenly. A bunk bed needs to be confirmed stable before the guardrail is fitted, because the guardrail is not a structural element and does not stabilise a frame that is already unstable.
Cots have a mattress base that adjusts to two or three heights as the child grows. The base position is set by a bolt at each corner. All four bolts need to be at the same height setting, confirmed before the mattress is placed. A base with one corner at the wrong height will tilt the mattress toward that corner.
Bunk beds are built in sequence: lower frame first, then upper frame, then the ladder. The upper frame anchors to the wall at the top. The wall anchor attaches to a stud. A bunk bed anchor in plasterboard only will move when the upper bunk is occupied. The anchor confirmation is done before the ladder is fitted and the bed is put into service.
Kids desks, bookcases, and toy storage follow the same sequence as their adult equivalents. Wall anchoring matters more in a kids room, because children will pull at furniture in a way adults generally do not. Jobs run across the inner city, South Sydney and the Eastern Suburbs.
