Office desk assembly starts with the frame and ends with the top. A frame that is levelled before the top goes on allows the top to sit flat. A frame that is not levelled first will have the top resting on the high point of the frame, creating a small gap on the low side that moves when pressure is applied to the desktop.
L-shaped and corner desks have a join piece that connects the two desktop sections. The join piece position is set before either desktop surface is fixed to the frame.
Grommet holes for cable routing are pre-cut in most office desktops. The grommet position needs to match the power spine or cable tray position on the frame. If the grommet is on the left side of the desktop and the cable tray runs along the right side of the frame, the cables will cross the underside of the desk to reach the tray.
Adjustable feet on an office desk need to be confirmed before the desk is placed in its final position, because accessing the feet under a desk that is against a wall or in a run requires moving the desk.
